Das beliebteste Lied aus dem Jahr 1971 stammt von dem französischen Schlagersänger und Komponist „Danyel Gérard“ und heißt „Butterfly“. Der Popsong war ein Millionenseller und verkaufte sich weltweit über 13 Millionen Mal. In Deutschland war der Titel 14 Wochen lang auf dem ersten Platz der Single-Charts.
Den zweiten Platz belegten die Songs „Mamy Blue“ der spanischen Popmusik-Gruppe „Pop Tops“ und das Lied „My Sweet Lord“ von dem britischen Musiker und Komponist „George Harrison“. Beide Songs konnte sich sich 10 Wochen lang in Deutschland auf Platz 1 der Charts behaupten. „My Sweet Lord“ war darüberhinaus auch in Österreich, der Schweiz, den USA und Großbritannien auf der Spitzenposition.
Den dritten Platz belegt der Song „Co-Co“ der britische Rockband „The Sweet“. Das Lied war sechs Wochen lang auf dem erste Platz der Charts vertreten.
